The Month of September is known for holidays and celebrations that include Labor Day, National Voter Registration Day and National Coffee Day. But what many of us don't know or take part in, is National Cleanup Day, which falls on the 3rd Saturday in September. Imagine if everyone picked up one piece of litter?
How is debris collected and disposed of you ask? Well, most of the trash are put into bags and then taken to the local landfill. Other items like plastic bottles can be recycled.
Consider planning a clean up event in your area. Below are five steps to do this.
1. Register Event
Do a little research to find out if there is already a community cleanup scheduled for your area. If there is not register your event. Eventbrite is a great online event organizer.
2. Set Goals and Make a Plan
Establish any and all goals and how you will accomplish them. Figure out how you will get volunteers, how you will get equipment, whose approval you may need, and if the site needs to be checked for hazards in advance.
3. Recruit Volunteers
Network, network, network! Anyone and everyone you know should be invited to help the community stay clean and beautiful. It is said, word-of-mouth is still the best marketing tool, so why not ask your neighbors, local schools, work, churches, sports leagues, etc. The more helping hands, the merrier.
4. Publicize Event
There are many ways to publicize your cleanup event. You can:
Contact your local newspapers and submit the event in the community events section
Submit the event to free online event calendars
Create an event on Facebook and invite everyone you know
Talk to organizations and see if they'd welcome announcements being posted in their bulletin
Create and place flyers in approved public areas like coffee shops, grocery stores or community meeting buildings
5. Rent a Dumpster
Renting a dumpster will not only save you and your volunteers time, but it will also create a smoother transition when disposing of the garbage. Your dumpster rental company will take care of that for you. All you need to do is collect the trash and debris and toss it into a roll-off dumpster. When your event is done, call to have the dumpster removed. That's it!
Whether you are planning your own event or are participating in an existing one, Oaks Dumpster appreciates your efforts in keeping our community clean. Call Oaks Dumpster Rental to order your next roll-off today!
